Newly Qualified Lawyers Programme launched by A4ID

Advocates for International Development (A4ID) in partnership with Challenges Worldwide (CWW) has announced the launch of its Newly Qualified Lawyers Programme (NQLP), a bespoke range of mini secondments which enable newly qualified lawyers to work with disadvantaged communities across the developing world.

Please note that applications for the NQLP close on 1 February.

ELA launch new initiative

Employment Lawyers Association members are invited to pledge to offer a day (or more) of pro bono assistance in the next year. The assistance could take various forms including such things as a day or more of advocacy or a client meeting.

About the AG's Committee

The Attorney General’s Pro Bono Committee was established following a seminar in December 2001, when the then Attorney General Lord Goldsmith was asked to establish a committee, to consist of the main pro bono provider groups,the voluntary advice sector, and the legal professional bodies.

The aim of the committee is to co-ordinate the delivery of pro bono legal services nationally and to facilitate the provision of pro bono initiatives.

The committee emphasises the message that pro bono legal work is complementary to public funding, not a substitute, and promotes the view that pro bono work helps to tackle social exclusion.

The terms of reference of the Committee are to:

Promote better links between providers of pro bono legal services and those in need of them;

Raise awareness about pro bono legal work; and

Encourage more and better targeted participation in pro bono legal work.
